There are countless trails leading from Mšeno to the Kokořínský důl (Kokořín Valley), the yellow footpath used to go through Sedlec to Hlučovský plácek – the signing no longer exists, however, the footpath can still be taken. Take the local train from Mělník to Mšeno, then follow the blue footpath from the station till you get to the town’s square where the footpath junction will direct your steps onto the green footpath leading to Sedlec. Outside the town backyards you will have to go down the road a bit until you walk through the village of Sedlec and then at the end of a blind road you will find yourselves in Hradsko where the tourist sign turns off right onto a fieldpath - of which you get off left a little further on, along the verge of the field. This is exactly where the former yellow footpath used to turn off, running along the fieldpath which was called Hlučovská. Behind the field the footpath drops down into forest, and on you go through a track carved into rock until you end up zigzagging along the crest before it throws you into the valley. Here you can pick from two ways of descent – either a ramble straight down to Močidla or a sligtly less steep path winding down to Cikánský plácek, right below the Pokličky sandstone rock formations.

You can knock the trip up a notch by taking the 4-kilometer red-signed observation tour. You just need to keep following the green footpath some longer, and right behind the field by the forest border you will come across triangular tourist signs which you can follow in both directions. I myself took the one in the clockwise direction and the very narrow path stayed Glacierfairly high till I got to Kozí Zámky - the worse it was to climb down afterwards – first you go down an iron ladder and into a tiny chasm in between sandstone towers, down wooden steps and through the goat trail (kozí stezka) by the hillside. In the end you have to jump off a rock into a ravine, where you can see a beautiful waterfall when the spring thaw comes. And there was more - as the end of the pass gradually opened up, it revealed another of the many surprises to be encountered here – a gorgeous cascading icefall crept down from the side valley. This was towards the end of March in the Polabí region, the springtime was setting in - but one couldn’t tell this here. The path led across, directly across the glacier, just a bit smaller than its alpine peers – and getting from one side to another wasn’t like snapping one’s fingers though, as I forgot to bring along an ice axe and spurs for my spring trip through the Kokořín region. Right behind the iceberg the path slopes down into the valley but it starts climbing up again by the campsite to avoid civilization. After nosing about the side ravine, the path gropes its way about Jeskyně bobříka odvahy (The Badge of Merit Cave) and then drops down to the campsite gateway again so it could climb the hillside on the opposite side of the road. This would make the end of the circuit, which at its highest points offers the best views of the hrad Kokořín (Kokořín Castle) situated across the valley – a little further on we get to where the green footpath, leading through Podhradská cesta, intersects our way on the left. Following the green footpath as well as the red triangular sings you will get back to the starting point from which you can continue to Hlučov. The closest from Cikánský plácek is Jestřebice by way of blue footpath, where behind the refreshment point you can reach the SOK minibus stop. If you want to get to Mšeno and catch the train there, you have to go through Močidla or across Pokličky – this trail is twice the walking distance, though.
